MB came to power after over 70 years of struggle full of patience and sacrifices. They were allowed to rule for just one year. The simple honest people are not aware of the mischievous crooked game of power politics. The foreign conspiracies lead by Zionist, US and some Arabs coupled with internal corrupt secular forces expedited the tragic end of MB rule.

There is need for the religious based Islamic political parties/forces to learn some lessons. It must be understood that indulgence in the dirty game of power politics is not the role assigned to them by Allah in noble Quran. They should stop considering themselves to be like Abu Bakir,Omar, Usman or Ali [may Allah be pleased with them]. They should keep the role of great scholars and Imams like Abu Hanifa, Malic, Humble or Shafie [may Allah bless them] who peacefully resisted against tyranny of rulers but did not seek power. They knew well their actual responsibilities, to keep and preach the true message of Islam to all.

If some one is pious and religious but does not know driving, no one will take a chance to travel in the bus driven by such a person, as it will risk the life. The piety and religious knowledge is not sufficient for safe driving. Politics and running government is the job of people expert in this field. One is required to deal with many internal and external forces, to take all people along. Under Chartre of Media Muslims and non Muslims were given equal rights. Traveling in a bus driven by inexperienced driver or government by no political simple devoted people involves risks, risk of life, it could be like committing suicide, forbidden in Islam:

وَلَا تُلْقُوا بِأَيْدِيكُمْ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ

Do not kill yourself

قرآن ٢:١٩٥

وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ

اور اپنے آپ کو قتل نہ کرو

قرآن ٤: ٢٩

Nor kill (or destroy) yourselves

Some people are risking lives of innocent people by leading them to armed struggle, revolt or through power politics. They think this is service to Islam. They ignore the task assigned to the Islamic Scholars by Quan:

وَمَا كَانَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لِيَنفِرُوا كَافَّةً ۚ فَلَوْلَا نَفَرَ مِن كُلِّ فِرْقَةٍ مِّنْهُمْ طَائِفَةٌ لِّيَتَفَقَّهُوا فِي
الدِّينِ وَلِيُنذِرُوا قَوْمَهُمْ إِذَا رَجَعُوا إِلَيْهِمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَحْذَرُونَ
(122:9 سورة التوبة)

"Nor should the Believers all go forth together: if a contingent from every expedition remained behind, they could devote themselves to studies in religion, and admonish the people when they return to them,- that thus they (may learn) to guard themselves (against evil). The job of Ulema, Islamic scholars is teaching and preaching Islam, they are even exempted form Jihad, a great exemption if one can realise, understand.
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) preached Islam, migrated to Medina, he did not grab power by force, people accepted him as their spiritual and political leader due to his strong character and qualities.

Present day Muslim societies need Dawah to know and practice true teachings of Islam. If scholars leave this primary task, who will reform society? No amount of jugelary of words and explanation can change the clear meanings of Quran 9:122.

A good Muslim society will produce good leaders, rulers and good people in all all segments of society, Islam and Shari'a will get implemented without any resistance or Fisad.

وہ سمجھتے ہیں کہ وہحضرت عمر ، ابوبکر ، عثمان یا علی رضی الله کی طرح ہیں .
امام ابو حنیفہ ما لک ، حمبل، شافی نے علماء کے کردار کا عملی نمونہ پیش کیا ہے ایک ایسا انسان جو بہت نیک پرہیز گار ہو مگر ڈرائیونگ سے نہ واقف ہو اس کو ایسی بس کی ڈرائیونگ سیٹ پر بیٹھا دیں جو مشکل دشوار پہاڑی راستے پر رہی ہو تو یہ خود کشی نہیں تو اور کیا ہے . اپنی نیکی اور اسلام علم کے باوجود ہم کبھی خطرہ مول نہیں لیں گے
معصوم عوام کی جان اور اپنے آپ ہلاکت میں ڈالنا خود کشی کی مانند ہے.
وَلَا تُلْقُوا بِأَيْدِيكُمْ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ
اور اپنے ہاتھوں اپنے آپ کو ہلاکت میں نہ ڈالو
قرآن ٢:١٩٥

کچھ لوگمذہب دین اسلام کی الٹی تاویلیں کر کہ سیاست میں ہیں اور کچھ انتہا پسندی اور دہشت گردی قتل و غارت تباہی میں مشغول ہیں اور سمجھ رہے ہیں کہ اسلام کی خدمت کر رہے ہیں .اسلام مین علماء کی زمداری واضح طور پر مقرر کر دی گی ہے . ان کا کام ہے د ین اسلام کی تعلیم دینا اور اسلام کی دعوت، تبلیغ کرنا

اس کام کی اتنی اہمیت ہے کہ اللہ سبحان تعالیٰ نے علماء کو جہاد سے بھی exempt استثنا

کر دیا . یہ بہت بڑی بات ہے اگر کوئی سمجھنا چاہے ؟

. آج ہماری سوسائٹی کو دین کو سمجھنے کی جتنی ضرورت ہے شائد کبھی پہلے نہ تھی سوسائٹی مذہب سے دور ہے عبادت پر زور ہے مگر اسلام کی روح اعلی اخلاق اور انسانیت کی اقدار سے دور ہیں . علماء کو چاہیے سوسائٹی کی اخلاقی مذہبی تربیت اور تعلیم دعوه پر توجیہ دیں . مگر افسوس علماء نے اس کا م کو چھوڑ کر سیاست اور حکومت طاقت حاصل کرنے کو اپنا مقصد بنا لیا ہے .ان میں کچھ لوگ اچھی نیت رکھتے ہیں مگر نتیجہ ظاہر ہے . اگر کوئی ڈاکٹر اپنا کم چھوڑ کر انجینرنگ کا کم کرے تو نتیجہ ہم کو معلوم ہے . اگر سوسائٹی کی دینی تعلیم و تربیت درست ہو تو ہم کو اچھے سیاست دن اچھے حکمران اچھے تاجر اچھے پولیس الغرض ہر شعبے میں اچھے لوگ مل جیئں گے

. پیارے نبی محمد صل الله وسلم کی زندگی
ہمارے سامنے مثال ہے پہلے تبلیغ دعوه سے سو سا ٹی کو تیار کیا .
مدینہ والوں نے آپ کو اپنا دینی و سیاسی لیڈر حکمران مان لیا آپ نے اقتدارپرزبر
دستی طاقت سے قبضہ نہ کیا
الله سبحان تعالیٰ نے علماء کا کام اور ذمداری بیان کر دی ہے

اور یہ کچھ ضروری نہ تھا کہ اہل ایمان سارے کے سارے ہی نکل کھڑے ہوتے، مگر ایسا کیوں نہ ہوا کہ ان کی آبادی کے ہر حصہ میں سے کچھ لوگ نکل کر آتے اور دین کی سمجھ پیدا کرتے اور واپس جا کر اپنے علاقے کے باشندوں کو خبردار کرتے تاکہ وہ (غیر مسلمانہ روش سے) پرہیز کرتے

اب علماء مختلیف تاویلیں کر کہ اپنے لیے جواز پیدا کر لیتے ہیں یہ ان کا اپنا

دین ہے خود ساختہ پھر وہ اپنے نفس کی بات کو اسلام سے نہ جوڑیں

ؤ تھوڑی قیمت پر میری آیات کو نہ بیچ ڈالو او ر میرے غضب سے بچوباطل کا رنگ چڑھا کر حق کو مشتبہ نہ بناؤ اور نہ جانتے بوجھتے حق کو چھپانے کی کوشش کرو
(قرآن٤٢- ٢:٤١)
تم دوسروں کو تو نیکی کا راستہ اختیار کرنے کے لیے کہتے ہو، مگر اپنے آپ کو بھول جاتے ہو؟ حالانکہ تم کتاب کی تلاوت کرتے ہو کیا تم عقل سے بالکل ہی کام نہیں لیتے؟

سیاسی علماء کہتے ہیں کہ کیا ہم ملک کو کرپٹ سیاست دنوں کے رحم پر چھوڑ دیں ؟ امر با المعروف نہیں منکر ہما ریبھی ذمہ داری ہے لیے ہم حکومت شامل ہوتے ہیں یہ ضروری ہے . مگر یہ انوکھی لاجک صرف پاکستان میں نمایاں ہے دنیا نےپریسٹ سے چھٹکارا پا کر ترقی کی ہےاسلام میں تو ملایت کا کوئی تصور نہیں علماء یہ کا م با خوبی حکومت سیاست سے با ہر ہو کر کر سکتے ہیں بلکے تاریخ گواہ ہے کہ علماء نے حکومت سے باہر باشاہوں خلیفہ پر تنقید کی . آج تاریخ ان کی عزت کرتی ہے .

ایک اور پواینٹ "اسلام مذہب نہیں بلکہ دین " ہے جو انسانی زندگی کے تمام . معاملات میں رہنمائی کرتا ہے. سیاست دین سےعلیحدہ نہیں سکتی
بلکل درست اسلام دین ہے مگر یہ نہیں کی اسلام ملا ہے علماءاسلام میں ہیں اسلام ملا میں نہیں . اسلام وسیع ہے اسلام مسلمان کی زندگی میں ہے سیاست میں بھی. ایک مسلم سیاست دان اچھا مسلم تو اچھے کام گا. قرآن علماء کی بنیادی ذمہ داری بیان کرتا ہے اگر وہ یہ کم کرلیں تو کافی ہے اچھے مسلمان اچھے سیاستدان خود گندے کھیل میں شامل ہو کر اپنا اصل کام چھوڑ دینا درست نہیں

اگر سیاست میں حصہ لینا ہے تو شوق سے لیں مگر دین اسلام کی اڑ میں نہیں اپنے عالم ھونے پر ووٹ کے لیے بھیک نہ مانگیں اپنے کردار سے اہل ثابت کر کہ شوق سے اقتدار میں آیئں وعدہ کریں پورا کریں

کسی عالم کے لیے دین اسلام کے نام پر اپنے لیے ووٹ لینے کو مذہبی فریضہ قرار دینا ایک دھوکہ اور دین کے ساتھ ظلم ہے
علماء سیاست میں داخل ہو کر تنقید کا نشانہ بنتے ہیں اور اپنےلیے دین اسلام کو ڈھال کے طور پر استمال کرتے ہیں . یہ ایک بد دیانتی اور اسلام پر ظلم ہے
اسلامی ملک میں زیادہ مسلمان ہیں کون اچھا بہتر مسلمان ہے الله جانتا ہے اپنے آپ کو قاضی مت بنیں جو کچھ سامنے ہے اس پر اکتفا کریں

اگر علماء سیاست سے پرہیز کریں تو تمام لوگ متفقہ طور پر ان کی بات پر دھیان دیں گے اور وہ سیاست پر مثبت طور پر اثر انداز ہو سکیں گے

یہاں اتنی بات اور سمجھ لینی چاہیے کہ تعلیم عمومی کے جس انتظام کا حکم اس آیت میں دیا گیا ہے اس کا اصل مقصد عامۃ الناس کو محض خواندہ بنانا اور ان میں کتاب خوانی کی نوعیت کا علم پھیلانا نہ تحا بلکہ واضح طور پر اس کا مقصدِ حقیقی یہ متعین کیا گیا تھا کہ لوگوں میں دین کی سمجھ پیدا ہو اور ان کو اس حد تک ہوشیار و خبردار کر دیا جائے کہ وہ غیر مسلمانہ رویۂ زندگی سے بچنے لگیں۔ یہ مسلمانوں کی تعلیم کا وہ مقصد ہے جو ہمیشہ ہمیشہ کے لیے اللہ تعالیٰ نے خود مقرر فرمادیا ہے اور ہر تعلیمی نظام کو اسی لحاظ سے جانچا جائے گا کہ وہ اس مقصد کو کہاں تک پورا کرتا ہے ۔ اس کا یہ مطلب نہیں ہے کہ اسلام لوگوں میں نوشت و خواند اور کتاب خوانی اور دنیوی علوم کی واقفیت پھیلانا نہیں چاہتا۔ بلکہ اس کا مطلب یہ ہے کہ اسلام لوگوں میں ایسی تعلیم پھیلانا چاہتا ہے جو اوپر کے خط کشیدہ مقصد تک پہنچاتی ہو ۔ ورنہ ایک ایک شخص اگر اپنے وقت کا آئن شتائن اور فرائڈ ہو جائے لیکن دین کے فہم سے عاری اور غیر مسلمانہ رویّۂ زندگی میں بھٹکا ہوا ہو تو اسلام ایسی تعلیم پر لعنت بھیجتا ہے۔

اس آیت میں لفظ لِیَتَفَقَّھُؤا فِی الدِّیْنِ جو استعمال ہوا ہے اس سے بعد کے لوگوں میں ایک عجیب غلط فہمی پیدا ہو گئی جس کے زہریلے اثرات ایک مدّت تک مسلمانوں کی مذہبی تعلیم بلکہ ان کی مذہبی زندگی پر بھی بُری طرح چھائے ہوئے ہیں۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے تو تَفَقُّہُ فِی الدِّیْنِ کو تعلیم کا مقصود بتایا تحا جس کے معنی ہیں دین کو سمجھنا، اس کے نظام میں بصیرت حاصل کرنا ، اس کے مزاج اور اس کی رُوح سے آشنا ہونا، اور اس قابل ہو جانا کہ فکر و عمل کے ہر گوشے اور زندگی کے ہر شعبے میں انسان یہ جان سکے کہ کونسا طریقِ فکر اور کونسا طرزِ عمل روح دین کے مطابق ہے۔ لیکن آگے چل کر جو قانونی علم اسطلاحًا فقہ کے نام سے موسوم ہوا اور جو رفتہ رفتہ اسلامی زندگی کی محض صورت (بمقابلہ ٔ روح) کا تفصیلی علم بن کر رہ گیا ، لوگوں نے اشتراکِ لفظی کی بنا پر سمجھ لیا کہ بس یہی وہ چیز ہے جس کا حاصل کرنا حکم الہٰی کے مطابق تعلیم کا منتہائے مقصود ہے۔ حالانکہ وہ کُل مقصود نہیں بلکہ محض ایک جزو ِ مقصودتھا۔ اس عظیم الشان غلط فہمی سے جو نقصانات دین اور پیروان ِ دین کو پہنچے ان کا جائزہ لینےکے لیے تو ایک کتاب کی وسعت درکار ہے۔ مگر یہاں ہم اس پر متنبہ کرنے کے لیے مختصراً اِتنا اشارہ کیے دیتے ہیں کہ مسلمانوں کی مذہبی تعلیم کو جس چیز نے روح دین سے خالی کر کے محض جسم دین اور شکل دین کی تشریح پر مرتکز کر دیا، اور بالآخر جس چیز کی بدولت مسلمانوں کی زندگی میں ایک نِری بے جان ظاہر داری ، دین داری کی آخری منزل بن کر رہ گئی، وہ بڑی حد تک یہی غلط فہمی ہے۔

Jamaat’s founder Maulana Maududi had to confront a virtual revolt in Maachi Goth near Rahimyar Khan in 1956. The issue was initially over alleged irregularities in the Jamaat bureaucracy but turned into a row whether the Jamaat should confine itself to Islamic revivalism or get into electoral politics. Jamaat had lost the 1951 Punjab elections badly. The late Dr Israr Ahmad, among others, contended that Maulana Maududi had opposed contesting the 1945 elections in the United India because, the party was told, the Jamaat stood for “social reform and Islamic revivalism and not for political gains.”

The issue led to a defection of about 56 senior members which comprised the cream of Jamaat including former acting Ameer Abdul Ghafaar Hassan and Dr Israr Ahmad. The most prominent of them all was Amin Ahsan Islahi, whose respect and scholarly credentials were not less than of Maududi. He is survived by his known disciple Javed Ghamdi these days. Maududi’s detractors claimed that the Maulana deliberately let the defectors go to strengthen his hold on the Jamaat.

The conflict between the Islamic ideology and pragmatic politics continued to trouble the Jamaat. Maududi’s support for ‘woman’ Fatima Jinnah in 1965 elections, justified as a “lesser evil” against Ayub Khan, was a major compromise. Kausar Niazi wrote against that extensively and was thus expelled from the Jamaat.

We do not have a “clergy” in the sense defined by Medieval Christianity. In this sense, we as Muslims do not believe that any person has the religious authority to require others to submit to his interpretation. We do have Islamic scholars who are well versed in Qur’an and Sunnah and Shariah (specialists). About such people, Allah says: ”O ye who believe, obey Allah and obey the messenger, and those charged with authority among you. If you differ in anything among yourselves refer it to Allah and His Messenger if you believe in Allah and the Last Day: that is best, and most suitable for the final determination.” 4:59.

The excellence of learned people (Ulama) in the Qur’an is manifest in: “Allah (Himself) proffers evidence: and so do the angels and all who are endowed with knowledge - that there is no deity save Him ... “ 3:16. Imam Ghazali commented on this Ayah by saying “See then, how Allah has mentioned Himself first, the angels second, then men endowed with knowledge third. In knowledge is honor, excellence, distinction and rank. And again, Allah says: ”Allah will raise up to (suitable) rank (and degree) those of you who believe and who have been granted knowledge.” 58:11

In Surah al-Tawba where Jihad was declared as an obligation, Allah said that even in this circumstance there should be a group of people who should stay behind and study and teach - source people - ulama. The Qur’an called them “Li yata faqqahu fildeen.” “...It is not desirable that all of the believers take the field in time of war: From within every group, in their midst. some shall refrain from going forth to war, and shall devote themselves instead to acquiring a deeper knowledge of the faith, and thus be able to teach their home-coming brethren, so that these too might guard themselves against evil.” 9:122

This ayah is very clear that there should be a class of people who devote themselves to study and who also teach what they have learned to others. We should not confuse ourselves with a false comparison between the existence of a class of religious scholars in Islam and the existence of a clergy as understood in Christianity. These are two different issues!

”Of all of His servants, only such as are endowed with knowledge stand truly in awe of God; for they alone comprehend that verily, God is almighty, much-forgiving.” 35:28. The Qur’an uses the term here: Innama yakh sha Allah min ibadihi al ulama.

Our Prophet emphasized the excellence of the Ulama in many Hadith:

Abu Umama al Bahili reported that two persons were mentioned to the Messenger - one being “abid” (a devout worshipper, the other being “alim” (a scholar). The Prophet then said: ”The superiority of a scholar (alim) over the devout (abid) is like my superiority over a worshipper or like that of the moon in the night when it is full over the rest of the stars, and truly the scholars arc the heirs of the Prophets, and truly the Prophets do not leave behind them gold or silver, they only leave knowledge as their heritage. So whosoever acquires knowledge acquires a huge fortune.” Transmitted by Ahmad, Abu Dawud and al Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah.

This hadith clearly emphasizes the position of the scholar in the Muslim community. The need for these scholars is more important “than air and water” as Imam Ahmad b. Hanbal said about his teacher, Imam Shafi.

It is narrated by Tirmidhi that Ibn Abbas reported the Prophet as saying: “A single (faqih) scholar of religion is more formidable against a devil than a thousand devout persons”.
Our Prophet warned the Ummah that knowledge would be extinguished from the earth and that people would be misled by ignorant leaders and so-called scholars. Abdul-Allah b. Umar (ra) reported the Prophet saying: ”Allah will not cause extinction of knowledge by taking it away from the servants, but He will cause extinction of knowledge by taking away the learned ones. When no learned man remains, the people will then take the illiterate as their leaders. They will seek religious verdicts from them and they will deliver those verdicts without knowledge and the people will go astray and lead each other into error.” Bukhari and Muslim.

The above makes it clear that the scholars in Islamic society are: 1) The learned people (ulama). 2) Those who lead people and who are followed by the people. 3) Those endowed with sound knowledge who will guide people to the right path. 4) Those who are necessary for the community’s benefit.

Today, the ummah is illiterate and many people act as Imams and Shaikhs without sound knowledge in Qur’an, Hadith, jurisprudence (usul al-Fiqh) and Ijma (consensus of opinion). When such unqualified people give religious verdicts, people are led astray. In order to save the ummah from this predicament, there must be ulama who spend their time in studying and who are SPECIALISTS, and the masses should seek their guidance and opinion on legal issues.

If you have a legal problem you consult a lawyer. If you have a medical problem you consult a physician. If your car is broken, you go to a mechanic to fix your car. You may not agree with their opinion, you may decide to obtain a second opinion, you may decide to get a different lawyer, doctor or mechanic. But, you know that you need these specialists, and you are not going to get a second opinion on a medical matter from an auto mechanic or ask a lawyer to look over your car. You might be able to pick up some law books and study them and attempt to represent yourself, but as the American expression goes “He who represents himself in a court of law has a fool for a client.”

I agree with brother Elias that everyone has the right to study Islamic Law from its sources and to come to a decision. However, to say that that personal decision is as authoritative as that of a specialist is another matter. When we seek the opinion of a physician we arc not saying that they are in a class above other people, but we respect their knowledge and we seek their help in their area of expertise, and we do give authority to their opinion because it is based on their having more knowledge in their field than a layman would normally have.

Religious knowledge is more serious than for example knowledge of how to fix a car or a table. The knowledge of what Allah wants from us and how to follow His law is the responsibility of every Muslim. But, if a Muslim does not have the necessary knowledge to make a decision in a specific instance, then he must ask the learned people - the ulama. If that makes them a class of learned people, it is not an evil class.

Their job is to help people to be closer to Allah.

The knowledge our scholars carry and continue to pursue is called Sacred Knowledge. By getting themselves involved with politics today they will necessarily bring dishonour to what Allah has honoured them with as the people will reflexively group them with a political movement. To add insult to injury, given that the Islamic tradition relies upon transmission from one generation to the next, the damage the scholar does when he involves himself with politics is not restricted to him – it’s a domino effect that will take down all his students and those who were granted degrees and ijazas by him. During times of political turbulence and mass disorder, when principles get deluded and clarity of direction is lost, Muslim scholars are supposed to be the steadfast pillars in the storm. We cannot afford to lose our religious leadership because they chose to embroil themselves in a realm they couldn’t tell their heads from their feet in.

Scholars' status in Islam:

It is known that religious knowledge is the successor to prophecy as scholars are to prophets. For this reason, they deserve credit. Allah describes them in his holy Quran "Allah elevates those believers among you and scholars". He also made their uniqueness third in line, after himself and his angels. Allah says "Allah, his angels and scholars are witnesses that there is no Allah but him." He also added that the Prophet said "the preference of a scholar compared to an average person, is like the moon compared to others starting on a full-moon night." In the Hadith, Abu Da'ud al-Tarmidi and al-Darqtani stated the prophet's saying "Prophets did not inherit money, but rather knowledge, so whoever follows the same path, is lucky".

The classification of scholars is derived from the importance of their role and responsibilities assigned to them, according to what Allah says. For this reason, underestimating them or talking negatively about their knowledge is associated with danger. Talking negatively about scholars is the beginning of launching destruction of the credibility and creating a religious leadership void in the Ummah. This would lead ignorant leaders to take over and mislead the Ummah.

People of knowledge have warned against talking negatively about scholars. Ibn 'Asakir said "Know that scholars' bodies are pious, and Allah has made it known where the boundaries are. So whoever talks poorly about them Allah will inflict heart disease on him prior to his death.
