US / NATO Attack on Pakistan -Analysis; Why Army & PAF did not respond?

To preserve sanity in a future relationship, sometimes a divorce is necessary. Pakistan must disengage from the war in Afghanistan while continuing its own war against terrorism within Pakistan. If the US wants to shed the blood of its young soldiers, propping up someone like Karzai for the next 50 years – that is its call....Says  Ikram Sehgal: A defence and political analyst.... http://goo.gl/47X2h

NATO attack leaves many unanswered questions:

Why Army and Air Force did not help their solders under attack?

While the pundits are busy blaming America, the question that is not being asked is what the the Army and the Air Force doing while two posts were being bombed and strafed for three hours. Do Kayani, Pasha, and Shaikh own cell phones. They should have answered the phones when their soldiers were asking for help!
The widow-makers must answer the jawans, why they did not help them while they were being attacked?
Why strut around in uniforms if you are going to cry like babies?
Force and the Army not come to the aid of the besieged soldiers. This time around, there was no Stealth choppers etc. etc. No one in the media has seriously questioned that why Air Force did not respond when Americans kept attacking for 3 hours.
They didn’t have to shoot down a chopper, a fire across the bow, or simple presence in the vicinity might have saved the lives of some of the “shaheeds”. While the ISPR claims that there was return fire from the post, there is no evidence of any serious retaliation. There JF-17 Thunders based near Peshawar. It would have taken them a few minutes to fly to the border and show support for the jawans laced with small arms. Apparently there was also no return fire from our Anti-Aircraft guns mounted on the check post. They didnt have to fire at the Americans, but simply greeted them at the border. A squadron of JTFs would have informed the US choppers that this is not acceptable behavior. Why were the helicopters allowed to kill and murder with impunity and why were they not challenged by choppers and planes.
No one is asking for war. They never showed up at the border. They were MIAs. They were asleep at the wheel while the jawans were being massacred with modern weapons of warfare. However the actions of the PAF and the Army showed abject incompetence and dereliction of duty. If Kayani, Pasha and Sheikh cannot take the heat, they should get out of the chicken. If they had any sense of moral responsibility, all three would have resigned.
Just like the Abbotabad Attack, the Air Force Chief, Rao Qamar and Gen Kiyani were nowhere to be found in the war room. It is pedagogical to note that during the Cabinet Defence Committee meeting, the Naval Chief was not even invited.  There is much chagrin over the memogate treachery and Haqqani has been fired. However the Air Chief and Army Chief are not being held accountable for lapse in security during the raid on Abbottabad. No amount of anti-American rhetoric can hide the serious lapse of security on the Western border.
The NYT reports the Army admitting that the top brass knew about the raid. “Yet the NATO strike inside Pakistan went on for two hours and continued even after Pakistani officials had alerted allied officials, he said. ‘The soldiers deployed on these posts immediately informed the senior officers, who took up the issue with regional headquarters at Peshawar and general headquarters in Rawalpindi,’ General Abbas said.”  What was the top brass doing? This is not the first time that NATO has crossed the Durand Line and killed and injured. Where is the plan to deal with this contingency. Those crossing the border are not firing water-cannons and rubber bullets. They are firing live ammunition. Either withdraw the troops from the line of fire or protect them. General Kayani, dont leave your soldiers like sitting ducks so that NATO can shoot fish in a barrel and use Pakistanis as target practice. Stop the drones and protect the borders–or go home.

We have published enough articles condemning the US actions. What is misisng are probing questions about the role of the PAF and the PA. What America did was wrong and bad. What Kayani didn’t do is criminal.
It is also astonishing to note the neither President Asif Zardari nor Prime Minister Yusuf Gilani attended the funeral ceremonies of the jawans who gave their lives defending the borders of the land. Zardari has yet to issue a statement on this episode.
Why is the Abbotabad Commission working at snail’s pace? Analysts are questioning why the Abbotabad Commission has summoned Hussain Haqqani on 14th Dec. Why is he not being questioned about his knowledge of the affair now. He should be in judicial remand right now, put through lie-detector tests and he should be pumped with truth serums, so that the truth can come out. Inquiring minds want to know what he meant when he texted to Mr. Munzur Aijaz that “Honorable gentlemen stand by each other”–this comment was in response to Aijaz’s assertion that he was aware of Mr. Haqqani’s role in the May 2nd raid on Abbottabad.
Neither Kayani, nor Pasha; neither Gilani nor Zardari have come clean on the drones and the Shamsi Airbase. When was it handed to the Americans? Why was the UAE given leeway on the matter. How could the UAE hand over a hunting strip to the CIA–so that they could rain terror on Pakistanis–while taking off from Pakistani soil? Who is going to be held responsible for this. The ANP leaders who are members of the Defense and Security Committee of the National Assembly acted like buffoons, and didn’t know a thing.
General Abbas seems to be proud of the fact that his soldiers did not fire on the invading forces. “NATO forces should present proof if they were claiming that firing was started from Pakistani side.” General Abbas should be explaining why his soldiers did not fire at someone who was crossing the border illegally.  Playing victim may be fun in Moharram, but this just happened last week. There is no fun in martyrdom, of one doesn’t put up a fight or show up at the battle.
It is time that Kayani, Pasha, Zardari and Gilani come clean. If you put Pakistanis in harms way, you better be there to support them when they are under attack. If you cna’t handle this responsibility, resign and go home!

We salute the jawans who died for the nation. We repudiate their bosses who did not give them the right weapons and did not support them during the fight. Should Pakistanis send bangles to Rawalpindi GHQ?

The crisis in Pak-US relations continues and has spread to the rest of NATO, when a NATO helicopter attack on a Pakistani check post, Salala in Mohmand Agency, martyred no less than 25 Pakistani troops, including two officers. The rest of the 40 soldiers posted there were wounded, in the wee hours of Saturday. As a result, NATO supplies, which come through Pakistan, were shut down by the Pakistan government. Thus the government found itself forced to take a step it had taken last year after NATO helicopters had killed two troops, but which it reversed after NATO apologised for the incident, after 10 days. At that time, there had not been incidents such as the Abbottabad raid, the Raymond Davis affair or Memogate. Not only are the casualties much higher, and involve some of very high ranks, but relations with the USA are now bound to worsen. The initial doubts about the location of the border are not enough to explain the incident, for the check post is no less than 2.5 kilometres inside the border.
It would be a mistake for the government even to contemplate the withdrawal of the ban. It should also be noted that the militants, whom the USA holds responsible for the tension in the region, have fought the Pakistani armed forces because they are on the American side of the War on Terror, but have never inflicted such heavy casualties on them in a single attack. For the USA, or NATO, to expect that an apology would serve, as before, to wash away its crime, and allow supplies to flow as usual, will be an error. To contemplate a restoration would be to invite an even bigger disaster. It would also show to NATO that the government does not care for the lives of its soldiers. It has already shown a supreme indifference to the fate of its civilian citizens, but such casualness towards its military forces would be unprecedented.
The stopping of NATO supplies should be a starting point, with a swift movement to disengagement from the USA’s so-called War on Terror, the logical next step. The government thinks that adherence to the USA would cause it to continue in office, but it should disabuse itself of that notion. It is up to Pakistan to show that it regards its own citizen’s lives with importance equal to, if not greater than, some other state’s.
